A Surprise Team Building Workshop in Copenhagen: Lino Printing with Align

Earlier this month I ran a lino print workshop for the team at Align.bi. Kaspar Birk, one of the team, planned the evening and kept the details to himself, so the rest of the team went in without knowing what to expect. It ended with five colleagues in Vesterbro, carving and printing their own artwork, with snacks and a few drinks on the table.

A workshop arranged in a few days

Kaspar got in touch just a few days before the event. That's not much time to plan a team activity, but it's something I'm happy to take on. I handled the booking, the materials and the guidance, so he could focus on the rest of the evening.

A creative space in Vesterbro

The main thing to sort was a space. I arranged Sticky Studios, a collective space in Vesterbro for tattoo, art and photography. It's a good fit for a lino workshop: it feels like a real working studio, and it gives a team something different from a meeting room or a restaurant.

How the evening went

I guided the team through the whole process. Everyone sketched a design, carved it into a lino block, then inked and hand-printed it. Nobody needed any experience, and everyone took their prints home.

It was a relaxed evening. People worked at their own pace, talked while they carved, and ate and drank as they went. That's what I like most about a lino workshop: your hands are busy, so conversation comes easily.

What Kaspar said

"Had a fantastic lino printing workshop with my team, led by Isuru! Despite reaching out just a few days in advance, Isuru managed to organise the entire workshop, including booking a great creative space for us. He was engaging, knowledgeable, and a great teacher, making the whole experience both fun and easy to follow. Overall, a really enjoyable experience that I'd highly recommend!" Why a lino workshop works for team building

  • Everyone makes something of their own. There's no winner and no competition, just a print each person is proud of.

  • No experience needed. People often start by saying they aren't creative. That usually changes quickly.

  • It's a break from screens. A shared, hands-on activity is a different kind of time together.

  • It suits small groups and large ones. I've run workshops for teams of five and for a 43-person company event at Milestone Systems.
